Series Wrap-Up

The Cleats o Fire wrapped up World Series 2009 with a total of 3 wins, 3 losses. After being pushed to the losers bracket early in the double elimination, the Cleats came out strong on Friday, beating their first opponent 9-5 with a strong showing of hitting and defensive actions. The next game was a tough fight, the winning edge going to Because We Can, which ended the Cleats dreams of making it to Saturday tournament play.

Overall, the Cleats o Fire made a strong showing of defensive teamwork and everyone contributed their skills at the plate. Sad to be eliminated early on, the Cleats still showed that the camaraderie of being together and supporting each other is what makes us strong. Next year, we’ll get ‘em in Vegas.

First day of pool play: 1-1

The Cleats o’ Fire began the Madison World Series today, playing two games back to back. The first game, played against Chicago LSD, the Cleats showed off powerhouse hitting and the infamous “wall of fire” on the field. Taking an early lead to boost confidence, we maintained top quality recreation softball and won the game (score to be posted). The second game was not as bright, playing the local Madison L-Team, ladies with tough hitting and aggressive on the bases. The Cleats began a comback late in the game, but were unable to return the hits given up, losing 4-7.

Tomorrow we return to Olbrich field to play the third pool play game, to immediately begin tournament play in the afternoon. Spirits are high, optimism in thriving, and team spirit everlasting.

In other Portland news, the two other women’s teams, Fairies & Swingers, both in the C Division, also completed the first day of pool play with one win and one lose each. Portland is making a good showing, bringing our spirit and cheering to each other, and looking strong. Activities for the night include a pub crawl as we tour local establishments in downtown Madison.

Thank you to EVERYONE who has supported us throughout the season in our efforts to raise funds to Madison. With tournement play beginning WEDNESDAY, the Cleats are excited to get settled and acclimated in Madison and start out strong with our first three games. We will play three games within our “pool”, and then be placed among the 12 registered “d” division teams. Then we begin Double Elimination, which means that as long as we win, we keep playing until the championship game. If we lose, we end up in the losers bracket, and then have to lose a second game before we are out of the tournament.

We are hoping, and I feel we have a good chance of making a nice showing at this Series. Follow us here, I will update stats and scores, and give some of the days highlights on this site. In between games, there will be lots of pool play at the hotel too, and the Cleats will dutifully uphold our core values: have fun, don’t get hurt, win games.

On our way to Madison

After having fought hard to earn the first place RCSA D Division trophy and surviving the 100 degree weather of the LCP Tournament, the Cleats o’ Fire are setting their sites towards the Madison World Series, three weeks away. The outlook is good: with only one team member unable to make the trip, the Cleats will be well equipped to take on the competition. Still essential is support in helping us offset the costs of this trip, and participating in one or more of our upcoming fundraisers is greatly appreciated:

Saturday, August 22nd: Hot Flash dance party. Get down on the dance floor with the hottest lesbian ladies of Portland! There will be a raffle for fabulous prizes and the cost of admission supports the Cleats o Fire and other women’s sports teams in the area.

Sunday, August 23rd: Bowl o’ Fire: The sport where getting a strike is a good thing! The purchase of one $12 ticket is good for 3 hours of open bowling (including shoes), and all proceeds go to the three women’s teams going to the World Series. Come play with us!

Our raffle is still going strong! With lots of great prizes, increase your chances of winning by purchasing more tickets!

The Cleats have collecting their finest old STUFF to share with the world, and we think you’ll like it! Come visit us on the weekend of June 26th to find some amazing treasures that once were owned by a famous Cleat o’ Fire. We will have a wide variety of items available for purchase, as well as some baked goodies and beverages for sale. All sales directly benefit the Cleats as they travel to Madison WI for the gay world series at the end of August. And, while you are in the neighborhood, check out the garage sales of several neighbors within the Ainsworth community! (you can also just come by and hang out with us, we love company!)

Welcome to the newest, most fabulous Cleats O Fire webpage ever built! Okay, it’s really the first one, the one that came after the one that was just thrown together (and not really built, per se). Anyway, thanks for coming to visit! Here you will find all you ever needed or wanted to know about the grand Cleats O Fire, the women in orange, the purveyors of all things softbally.

We are about to embark on yet another journey to the World Series of softball, this year held in Madison, WI. This will be our third trek to the ASANA World Series, previously held in Phoenix and Seattle, and Madison is just a wee bit farther away, and as such, requires more funds, and what does that mean? It means awesome events, rallying of raffle prizes, and other FUNdraising activities to ensure that everyone gets to participate. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Whether by purchasing a raffle ticket (or several), stopping by our garage sale (June 26 & 27th), coming to our events, cheering us on through the season, or by donating cash through this site, you support is graciously appreciated.
